Streetscape, Pedestrian Corridor & History Walk:

Our vision is to create a safe, history-enriched environment for all visitors to Newark and The Works while engaging people in the storied history of our community. In collaboration with the City of Newark, Park National Bank, and JBA Architects, The Works has developed a concept for a new streetscape and walkway from Second Street to First Street that will allow pedestrians to travel securely from the Canal Market District and other points downtown to our museum. The plan also features safer parking, school bus access, and turnarounds.

CONSTRUCTION:

Week of Mar 23 – Construction has continued on Streetscape. Side walk cuts have been made and the construction team will now start removing asphalt.

Week of March 9 – Parking has been temporarily moved. This week Robertson Construction will begin placing the sidewalk connecting 1st and 2nd Street which will temporarily close parking in front of The Works. Parking is available to Works guests in the parking garage on 2nd Street and guests are free to enter through the 2nd Street building and across the Courtyard to the Main Entrance. Please call Guest Services at 740-349-9277 with any questions and continue to check our website for construction and parking updates.

Week of Feb 24 – Construction is temporarily on hold for some engineering issues, but will be moving along again soon. Our new arch is being created this week!

Week of Feb 10 – There is a fenced off area in front of the building. You may see digging and other construction going on, but our main entrance is still open!

Week of Feb 3 – Construction on our Streetscape Project has officially begun! Canal Street between 1st and 2nd Street is officially closed, but parking is still available on the north side of our parking lot, as well as in the parking garage on 2nd Street. The main entrance is still accessible and will be for the duration of construction. Thank you to Robertson Construction for making our Streetscape and Pedestrian Corridor become a reality!
