Featured: Donate to the Marcia W. Downes Future Exhibits Fund
This fund has been established in honor of Marcia Downes’ more than 20 years of service to The Works. Marcia began working in close partnership with The Works’ founder, Howard E. LeFevre, in the late 1990s, bringing to life his vision to establish an interactive learning center on the site of an 1800s Newark, Ohio, industrial space.
The Marcia W. Downes Future Exhibits Fund will be used at the discretion of the Executive Director to continue to deliver on The Works’ vision to serve as:
- A center of inspiration and creativity for curious learners of all ages
- An energetic indispensable educational and cultural resource
- A catalyst for connection and positive change in our community
Please consider a donation to this important new fund. Thank you!

55 S. 1st Street,
Streetscape, Pedestrian Corridor & History Walk:
Our vision is to create a safe, history-enriched environment for all visitors to Newark and The Works while engaging people in the storied history of our community. In collaboration with the City of Newark, Park National Bank, and JBA Architects, The Works has developed a concept for a new streetscape and walkway from Second Street to First Street that will allow pedestrians to travel securely from the Canal Market District and other points downtown to our museum. The plan also features safer parking, school bus access, and turnarounds.
