Feb. 21 – The Brain, The Beat & The Bluecoats! Neuroscience in a World Class Drum Corps

Dr. Nestor Matthews, Professor, Chair of Psychology, Denison University

In recent summers, Drum Corps International’s World Champion “Bluecoats” drum corps performed for local audiences at Newark High School’s White Stadium. The Bluecoats’ performances feature spectacular and precisely timed visual displays. This talk will summarize recent psychology and neuroscience experiments on the visual-timing skills of the Bluecoats’ percussionists, brass players, and color guard.
